I specialize in 21st century Anglophone literature as it relates to shared concerns of globalism, cosmopolitanism, and questions of post-postmodernity. My dissertation analyzes four 21st century novels – Michael Ondaatje’s Anil’s Ghost (2000), David Mitchell’s Cloud Atlas (2004), Jennifer Egan’s A Visit from the Goon Squad (2010), and Karen Joy Fowler’s We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves (2013) – and considers how they wrestle, implicitly and explicitly, with the history of the 21st century and its effect on formal innovation and literary periodization. I analyze the four novels as representations of how individuals might live at multiple levels (the family, the nation, the globe, and the species) in ways befitting the increasing focus on humanist and cosmopolitan communities. I am currently writing two new articles for publication, one about animated Disney movies and parenting and another about Cloud Atlas and 'speculative modernisms.'
I have also published work about and worked extensively in Marquette's. My work focused primarily on Writing Across the Curriculum, finding new and more sustainable ways of expanding the reach of the writing center. I am passionate about constantly refining and developing methods of interdisciplinary and cross-campus collaboration, as well as collaborating with instructors from a multitude of disciplines on how to enhance writing center and writing integration in courses as well as on instructional and assessment coaching. This work informs my writing instruction as well, in which I emphasize communal creation, shared authority, and multiplicity.
