St. Ignatius Statue

Located outside of the Chapel of the Holy Family in the Alumni Memorial Union, this bronze statue was given to Marquette in memory of Geraldine E. Keane, Arts ’38.

Saint Ignatius of Loyola (1491–1556) was the founder of the Society of Jesus and became its first Superior General. St. Ignatius was a talented spiritual director and wrote about his discernment method in the Spiritual Exercises, a book of simple meditations and prayers, first published in 1548. Ignatius was beatified in 1609 and canonized on March 12, 1622.
