Other Health Advising

Students often come in thinking that they know which health profession they want to pursue, and end up changing their mind. It’s often the case that students know a great doctor, dentist, physical therapist or other health professional, and so decide early on that they would like to pursue that path.

Once a student is actively exploring that field by volunteering, working or shadowing, they may find another career that suits them even better. After all, most students state from high school that they want to become a doctor (or dentist, PA, PT or other practice) because they want to help people. Helping people and serving others is what all health professionals do, so it may end up that another area of health care suits you better.

Our pre-health advisors at Marquette University will help you as you work to explore fields and find the best fit for you. We can help you explore fields such as nursing, genetic counseling, neuropsychology, bioethics, podiatry, audiology, occupational therapy, healthcare administration, veterinary medicine, perfusion and many more. Visit to start your search, and work with one of our pre-health advisors as you explore your areas of interest.

Post-Baccalaureate Programs

Post-Baccalaureate Programs are designed to assist individuals pursuing a medical/dental career after they have already received a Bachelor's degree. The purposes of these programs vary. Some are designed for individuals who have not yet completed the science courses required for their professional school application. Other programs are designed for individuals wishing to enhance an existing academic record; these students have taken the requisite courses, but need to improve their GPAs to increase the competitiveness of their applications. Things to consider:

  • Certificate or Master’s
  • Cost and Length (1-year, 2-year)
  • Career-Changer or Academic Enhancers
  • Linked to desired professional school
  • Profession Specific Programs
  • Minority and Economically Disadvantaged
