Online Parent ChatAt noon today, Wednesday, Nov. 30, staff members from around campus will be available to answer questions during an online chat. Ask questions about academic support, housing, relationships with roommates and friends, safety, student involvement, homesickness, student employment, health, advising, and financial aid. NEWS FOR PARENTSMid-year CommencementMid-Year Commencement is Sunday, Dec. 18, at 9:30 a.m. in the U.S. Cellular Arena. Tickets are not needed, and family and friends are invited to attend. Graduation events will also include a Baccalaureate Mass at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, at the Church of the Gesu. Free parking, Vacant House Watch and shuttles available for semester breakStudents leaving their vehicles in Milwaukee during break can obtain free on-campus parking while they are gone. After their last exam, students can register their vehicle and obtain a parking pass in the Parking Services office, located in the Wells Street Parking Structure. For additional information, call (414) 288-6911. Students living off-campus are also encouraged to register their properties with the Department of Public Safety for Vacant House Watch. Students must fill out the Vacant House Watch form and return it to the DPS office in Parking Structure 1 on 16th Street. Public Safety is also providing shuttles to the Amtrak and Greyhound/Megabus stations. Shuttles will run every hour, on the hour, Friday, Dec. 16, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., leaving from the DPS office in Parking Structure 1 on 16th Street. Starting at 5 p.m., students can request a ride to the Amtrak or bus terminal using the LIMO service, which runs until 3 a.m. LIMO service will also be available on Sunday, Jan. 15, and Monday, Jan. 16, from 5 p.m. to 3 a.m., to get students from the train and bus stations back to campus. LIMO requests are made by calling DPS at (414) 288-6363. No reservation or notice is needed for the hourly shuttle on Tuesday. Whether using the shuttle or LIMO service, students should plan ahead as departure and pick-up times cannot be guaranteed. MARQUETTE EVENTSGame watching parties for Marquette vs. Wisconsin, Dec. 3Join fellow Marquette parents, alumni and friends at 30 Regional Game Watching Parties across the country as the men's basketball team takes on in-state rival Wisconsin Saturday, Dec. 11. Events are planned in Wisconsin, Chicago, Washington, D.C., Las Vegas, and other locales. Information on the game watching parties is available on the Marquette University Alumni Association calendar. Christmas concerts on campus, Dec. 2-10Marquette University's music programs will fill the campus with the sounds of Christmas with a series of concerts. Events include performances by the Marquette Liturgical Choir, Chorus, Gospel Choir, Orchestra, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Faculty and Staff Chorale, and the Naturals, Marquette's all-men a cappella group. Parents Association basketball game, Feb. 11Mark your calendar for this annual gathering when the men's basketball team takes on Cincinnati on National Marquette Day. A block of tickets has been reserved for the Parents Association: tickets are available for $22 each. Details about pre-game plans are still in the works, but we encourage parents to purchase tickets as soon as possible. MARQUETTE ATHLETICSWomen's volleyball earns first NCAA invitation in program historyThe women's volleyball team has earned an at-large bid to the 2011 NCAA Women's Volleyball Championship for the first time in program history and will face Sun Belt Conference Champion Western Kentucky in the first round on Friday, Dec. 2, at 4:30 p.m. in Champaign, Ill. Marquette (23-10) is led by 2011 BIG EAST Coach of the Year Bond Shymansky, who has led MU to 23 victories each of the last two seasons and a spot in the semifinals of the conference tournament each year.
