Wind ensemble performingWind Ensemble

Directed by Dr. Erik Janners, the Wind Ensemble is a 55-member wind band that performs high-level wind band repertoire. It is designed for students who are seeking a high-level music-making experience. All students are welcome in the Marquette bands program, but placement within the Wind Ensemble is competitive.

 

Symphonic band performanceSymphonic Band

The Marquette University Symphonic Band is made up of about 75 students from all academic programs. While most students own their own instruments, the university does have an inventory of brass, woodwind, percussion and string instruments for use by students. All students are welcome to participate in Symphonic Band.

 

MU pep band performingPep Band

Members of the Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band may also participate in the Pep Band, which performs at all home men’s and women’s basketball games. The Pep Band also travels with the teams to conference and NCAA tournaments. Selection for these traveling pep bands depends upon attendance throughout the year.

 

Jazz Ensemble PerformanceJazz Ensembles

There are two jazz big bands, directed by Dr. Joel Flunker, that are composed of about 20 students each. The Jazz Ensembles meet on Tuesdays, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Varsity Theatre. The ensembles perform three or four concerts a year and for special events on campus.

Orchestra PerformanceOrchestra

The Marquette University Symphony Orchestra, directed by Dr. Erik Janners, is made up of about 60 students as well as a few alumni and faculty members. The Symphony Orchestra meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 to 4:50 p.m. The orchestra performs several concerts of classical and contemporary music each year.
