Interested in the RA Position?

The Resident Assistant (RA) position is a premiere leadership position within the Office of Residence Life. The main function of the RA is to build relationships with residents in an effort to provide individualized support, campus resource information, and academic encouragement. The goal of the RA is to ensure that Marquette feels like home for residential students by building community within their respective wing or floor.

The ideal RA candidate is a current student who has community living experience, a minimum 2.50 GPA, and a desire to make an impact on the lives of his/her peers. Quality candidates will have a commitment to personal integrity, serving members of their peer group, and engaging in personal development.

2017-2018 Application Details

There are four steps to applying to be a Resident Assistant. Candidates must also meet the following minimum qualifications by the time the position starts (8/13/2017):

  • Applicants must have 2 semesters of community living experience
  • Have a minimum 2.50 GPA (cumulative and semester)
  • Be in good standing with the University (academic and conduct)
  • Be able to commit to all training dates as described in the RA position description and contract

The following are the four steps to apply:

  1. Attend the Mandatory RA Info Session on Tuesday, December 6th at 8:00pm in the AMU Ballrooms.
  2. Complete the application for the RA position including essay, letter of recommendation and resume by Tuesday, January 17th.
  3. Participate in a 30-minute individual interview on January 26th or January 27th, 2017.
  4. Participate in a 90-minute group process interview on Friday, February 3rd.

The RA position application is hosted through Handshake in collaboration with MU Career Services.

Applications and completed reference forms for 2017-2018 are due by January 17, 2017.

  • Complete an application via Handshake.
    • To find the position, you can search for "Resident Assistant" or access the application here.
      • Upload a resume specific to the RA position - highlight your leadership experiences and past jobs.
      • Upload your essay responses. Use our template under Resources for Candidates below.
  • Submit one reference from either:
    • Current RA Reference - To be completed by a current or recent RA. Form is available for current RAs via MU Involvement Link here.
    • Non-RA Reference - The form is a PDF that can be submitted to the Office of Residence Life or via email to Form is available here.
    • Your submitted reference will not appear on Handshake. We will contact you if we are mising a reference.

Interview Process

There following are the steps to the interview process:

  1. After submitting an application, you will be invited to sign up for an individual interview via Handshake.
  2. You will receive follow-up notification and permission to sign up for a Group Process interview via Handshake.
  3. Participate in an individual interview that you sign up for on Handshake (January 26th OR January 27th, 2017).
  4. Attend the Group Process interview that you sign up for on MU Career Manager (February 3rd, 2017).
