Interested in the RA Position?

The Resident Assistant (RA) position is a premiere leadership position within the Office of Residence Life. The main function of the RA is to build relationships with residents in an effort to provide individualized support, campus resource information, and academic encouragement. The goal of the RA is to ensure that Marquette feels like home for residential students by building community within their respective wing or floor.

The ideal RA candidate is a current student who has community living experience, a minimum 2.50 GPA, and a desire to make an impact on the lives of his/her peers. Quality candidates will have a commitment to personal integrity, serving members of their peer group, and engaging in personal development.

RA Selection for Academic Year 2018-2019

2018-2019 Application Details

There are four steps to applying to be a Resident Assistant. Candidates must also meet the following minimum qualifications by the time the position starts (8/12/2018):

  • Applicants must have 2 semesters of community living experience
  • Have a minimum 2.50 GPA (cumulative and semester)
  • Be in good standing with the University (academic and conduct)
  • Be able to commit to all training dates as described in the RA position description and contract

The following are the four steps to apply:

    1. Attend the Mandatory RA Info Session on Tuesday, December 5th at 8:00pm in the AMU Ballrooms or the replacement session (noted below).
    2. Complete the application for the RA position including essay, letter of recommendation and resume by Tuesday, January 16th. Links to the essay and resume templates are below; recommendation is link is also below.
    3. Participate in a 30-minute individual interview on January 25th or January 26th, 2018.
    4. Participate in a 90-minute group process interview on Friday, February 2nd.


Interested applicants must attend the Resident Assistant information session to learn more about the position requirements and details about the application process.

Applying via handshake

Applications and completed reference forms for 2018-2019 are due by January 16, 2018.

    Upload a resume specific to the RA position - highlight your leadership experiences and past jobs.

Interview Process

There following are the steps to the interview process:

    After submitting an application, you will be able to sign up for an individual interview via Handshake.

    You will receive follow-up notification and permission to sign up for a Group Process interview via Handshake upon successful completion of the individual interview.

    Participate in an individual interview that you sign up for on Handshake (January 25th OR January 26th, 2018).

    Attend the Group Process interview that you sign up for on Handshake (February 2nd, 2018).
