<description><![CDATA[<b>Popular leadership program is celebrating its 35th anniversary</b><br>&nbsp;<br>MILWAUKEE
 – Celebrating its 35th year, the Future Milwaukee Community Leadership 
Program, offered through Marquette University&rsquo;s College of Professional 
Studies, is currently recruiting 35 to 40 individuals for its nine-month
 program. Participants will meet two times each month on Monday evenings
 from September 2013 through May 2014. <a href="http://www.marquette.edu/cps/futuremilwaukee/how_to_apply_online_app.shtml" target="_self">Applications are available online</a>; the deadline is Sunday, June 30. <br>

<title><![CDATA[Marquette senior named 2013 Student Journalist of the Year by National Association of Black Journalists]]></title>

 MILWAUKEE – Marissa Evans, a senior at Marquette University, was named the 2013 Student Journalist of the Year by the National Association of Black Journalists. Evans, from El Cajon, Calif., will be recognized for her achievements this summer at the NABJ&rsquo;s 38th Annual Convention and Career Fair in Orlando. She will graduate from Marquette this week with a journalism degree and minors in political science and entrepreneurship. <br><br>&ldquo;I&rsquo;m humbled and blessed to know that NABJ, an organization I love and care about so much, has faith in me and the work I&rsquo;ve been striving to do as a young journalist,&rdquo; Evans said in a release from NABJ. &ldquo;I&rsquo;m excited to continue serving the organization and hope to inspire the next generation of journalists coming behind me.&rdquo; <br><br>]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[<b>Higher status peers influence weight gain in college females, less so for males</b><br><br>MILWAUKEE
 – A new study led by a Marquette University professor shows that female
 weight gain is&nbsp; influenced by peers of a higher status, with little 
evidence of the same peer effects for males. The project, led by <a href="http://business.marquette.edu/faculty/directory/olga-yakusheva" target="_self">Dr. Olga Yakusheva</a>, associate professor of economics in the College of Business Administration, will be published in early-2014 in the <i><a href="http://jhr.uwpress.org/" target="_self">Journal of Human Resources</a></i>, a premier economics journal.

Paul Ryan leading the field in his home state for the GOP presidential nomination in 2016, with support from 27 percent of Wisconsin Republican voters and independents who lean Republican. Florida Sen. Marco Rubio has the support of 21 percent, while Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker is third with 16 percent support. Other potential candidates include New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie at 11 percent, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul at 7 percent, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush at 5 percent and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal at 1 percent. Twelve percent said they didn&rsquo;t know or preferred someone else. <br>]]></description>
