Marquette University 2014 Staff Photo

Every year, approximately 100 current Marquette students welcome the incoming students to Marquette by serving on SPARK or Orientation Staff. Positions include the Student Directors (4 students), SPARK Leaders (27 students), Orientation Leaders (90 students), and Transfer Orientation Leaders (10 students).

Student Directors for New Student & Family Programs

Students Directors for NSFP work part-time during the spring semester, and full-time from May through the end of September to plan and coordinate events and staff training. Four Student Directors generally have experience either with Orientation programs or other large scale programs or events and are expected to demonstrate strong leadership skills. Preference is given to students with at least two full years of college experience at the time of application. The Student Director application for next year will open in Fall 2018.

SPARK Leaders

SPARK Leaders are chosen to facilitate small group discussions and staff student and family events at SPARK (summer sessions). SPARK Leaders are expected to demonstrate strong leadership skills, and they are paid a small stipend for their work during SPARK.

Orientation Leaders

Orientation Leaders (OLs) are student volunteers who facilitate group discussions, staff events, and generally provide a welcoming atmosphere to new students during New Student and Family Orientation. The time commitment for Orientation Leaders is concentrated in late August.

Transfer Orientation Leaders

Transfer Orientation Leaders are student volunteers who facilitate group discussions and staff for events specifically related to incoming transfer students. Transfer students looking to be a part of staff can apply to work with either first-year students or transfer students. The time commitment for Transfer Orientation Leaders is concentrated in late August.
