A statement of purpose reflects the clarity and commitment of the applicant's vision in pursuing a graduate degree. It is a way to show the Admissions Committee that the applicant has the motivation to succeed. The statement should indicate that an applicant has investigated the program, found that it fits his or her interests and aptitudes, and planned how he or she will succeed in it.
A statement of purpose usually begins by indicating the applicant's reasons for undertaking graduate study at Marquette. The statement may include academic objectives, research interests and career plans. Include related qualifications; collegial, professional and community activities; and any other substantial accomplishments not already mentioned on the application form.
