From: L. Christopher Miller, Vice President for Student Affairs
I am writing to share with you news of a serious accident involving one of our students that took place at an off-campus apartment building early this morning. A Marquette student fell from a balcony when a railing he was leaning on gave way, according to the report given by the other student present.
The prayers of our entire campus community go out to the family and the student, who was immediately transported to Froedtert Hospital, where he is being treated for serious injuries. Marquette's Campus Ministry staff has met with the family at the hospital and will continue to be of support.
The safety of our students is our most important priority. The incident occurred at a privately owned apartment building and we have been in touch with both the City of Milwaukee and the building owner to fully understand how the situation occurred. Our Department of Public Safety has also notified the other residents of the building and advised them to avoid the balconies.
As a close-knit campus community, an event like this one impacts each and every one of us, as we work to support the injured student, family and friends, and the entire campus community. A prayer service for the student will be held at 4 p.m. this evening in the Chapel of the Holy Family in the Alumni Memorial Union. We also encourage our campus community to make use of Marquette's counseling and spiritual services, including Campus Ministry, the Counseling Center, and the resources available through the Office of Residence Life and the Division of Student Affairs. Most importantly, we ask for your continued prayers for our student and his family.
